Canal boat hire near London:
a day on the Grand Union from Tring
We don't hire boats on London's own canals. We're at Cowroast Marina in Tring, 35 to 40 minutes by train from Euston, on a quiet, green stretch of the Grand Union. You steer the boat yourself, you don't need a licence or experience, and each boat takes up to 10 people.
How far is it from London?
Trains run from Euston to Tring in 35 to 40 minutes. From Tring station it's a short taxi ride or a 25-minute towpath walk to the marina. If you're driving, there's parking at the marina, with directions in your booking confirmation. More on getting to Cowroast Marina.
What a day looks like
Leave Euston around 9am and you can be on the water by mid-morning. After your handover, head north: no locks, about three miles through the Tring Cutting to the Grand Junction Arms at Bulbourne, where you can moor alongside for lunch. Then back to Cow Roast at walking pace, about 3mph, by your return time.
Should you hire in London instead?
If you want to cruise past Camden or Little Venice, a boat company in London is the better choice. If you want a quieter day with fields, woods and a pub on the towpath, and a train ride that's part of the day out, come to us.
Who it suits
Groups of up to 10. Families, birthdays, couples, team days, and dog owners.

What it costs
You pay for the whole boat, not per person. A weekday out of season is £195 and a weekend £220; from 15 January 2027 those become £205 and £230. Summer (May to early September), bank holiday and Easter weekends, and Christmas cost more, up to £395. The booking page shows the price for each date.
