Spontaneous Day Out? Save Up to 20% on Last-Minute Narrowboat Hire

The best days out are rarely the ones planned six weeks in advance with a shared spreadsheet and a group chat that goes quiet for a fortnight. They are the ones where someone says, "Shall we just go and do something?" on a Tuesday morning.

To make spontaneous trips even sweeter, we're offering a standing short-notice booking discount on midweek bookings across our fleet:

  • Book within 7 days of departure → Save 20%

  • Book between 8–14 days in advance → Save 10%

No promo codes to hunt for, no small print marathon - the discount applies automatically at checkout whenever you pick an available midweek date in the short-notice window. It is simply a genuinely great reason to stop scrolling and get out on the water.

Whether you are wrangling the kids through the summer holidays, smuggling the dog onto the guest list, or finally getting your partner away from their phone screen for five hours, there is a boat ready for you. And if you are booking on short notice, it costs less too.

Screen-Free, Stress-Free: A Summer Holiday Hit with the Kids

Six weeks of school holidays is a long time to fill. Most off-the-shelf family outings involve a cramped car park, an endless queue, and a small mortgage. A private day on the canal is the exact opposite of all three.

Steering takes just two minutes to learn (captains must be 18+, but co-pilots of all ages are welcome). Once you are underway, the kids can take turns at the tiller, work a lock as a team, or spot swans while you enjoy a hot cup of tea. Three of our boats - Albert, Victoria, and Hay Day - feature enclosed rear decks, so little ones can stand right beside the skipper safely.

Bring the Whole Pack (Yes, Even the Muddy One)

A "dog-friendly" day out that turns into a tense afternoon of short leads, restricted zones, and dirty looks isn't a day out at all. A narrowboat is built for dogs: miles of traffic-free towpath, an enclosed deck to sprawl on, and nobody telling anyone off for shaking off after a quick paddle.

It is just £15 per dog for the full day. A lead and water bowl are essential; a towel is strongly recommended - someone will end up in the canal, and it probably won't be you.

Or Keep It Just the Two of You

Same canal, completely different experience. Skip the crowded restaurant with overheard conversations. Instead, enjoy a private boat, a picnic, and as many (or as few) locks as you fancy working together. If you prefer pure relaxation, the Tring Summit gives you 2.5 lock-free miles to drift along effortlessly.

  • Lavender features an open cruiser deck made for side-by-side steering in the sun.

  • Albert & Victoria feature central heating for cozy cooler days.

  • Evening Hire: Enjoy a golden-hour finish on Albert, running through the end of August.
